Perfect Litter begins to change color to a light pink when introduced to feline urine with a pH >7.3. The higher the pH, the darker the red becomes. A high pH can be caused by Feline Lower Urinary Tract Disease (FLUTD); or may be an indication that the Feline is prone to FLUTD. It may also be caused by stress or diet. Therefore, a color change in the litter is not a disease diagnosis, but rather an indicator there may be a problem. Observation of the cat's behavior following the first notice of a color change is recommended, at least for 3-4 days. If the color change persists and the cat exhibits abnormal behavior such as evacuation of waste outside the box, licking of genital region or resting on cool surfaces, a call to the Veterinarian is recommended.
