I was browsing the MSP body rubs section of Backpage for ads posted on Thursday, May 6 when my computer became infected with a virus. The virus presented itself as a anti-virus program and popped up hundreds of warning messages. It also prevented Malware Bytes' Anti-Malware and other programs from running. Norton 360 couldn't find it.

Running Spybot Search & Destroy successfully found and deleted "Fraud.Sysguard" which seems to have fixed the problem.

Backpage allows images and music to be embeded from other sites. Also legit sites like CNN have caused that same virus. This is the fake antivirus pop up that looks like a real MS window. Once installed on your system it will pop up over everything every few seconds and tell you that you have thousands of infections and to buy the product to remove them.

SCARE-WARE.

Anyway the get their ads in rotation in many mainstream sites, because most sites do not handle their own ad sales/rotation. They subscribe to a service that rotates ads in the designated spaces on the sites like here, TER, most free sites used by providers, CNN, etc.

Good for you that your AV software caught it and blocked it before you got infected since it very effectively disables most know av programs once it gets in,and blocks you from getting to their sites as well as MS sites, and removal programs. It started in 2007 and is reborn several times a year new and improved.

Good luck.
